Zhaoping Railway Station
Zhaoping Railway Station
Zhaoping Station was originally built in 1914 as the terminus of the Alishan Main Line and served as the starting point for various branch lines used during the logging era. After undergoing two reconstructions, the current station building officially opened on April 21, 2013. The first floor features reinforced concrete construction, while the second floor is made of wood—a distinctive characteristic of the station. Its design is inspired by the old Alishan wooden train depot and incorporates traditional Japanese timber construction techniques, showcasing the advantages of wood materials and the feasibility of modern timber architecture. The result is a nostalgic blend of vintage Japanese railway style and modern engineering.
In addition to its role as a train station, Zhaoping Station is designed as a multifunctional space that incorporates art exhibitions, cultural performances, and indigenous craft shops—offering travelers a unique way to experience railway culture through art and local heritage.
