Office of President
Office of President
The Presidential Office Building of the Republic of China was completed in 1919 and features the architectural style of Tatsuno Kingo. It is designated as a national historic monument. Originally built as the “Taiwan Governor-General’s Office” during the Japanese colonial period, it later became the Presidential Office after the Republic of China government relocated to Taiwan. Today, it stands as a vital political center in Taiwan.
As the administrative center during the Japanese colonial period, the building reflects a Neo-Renaissance architectural style influenced by European historicism. It showcases strong elements of 19th-century European historicist design combined with functional considerations. The entire structure is composed of four elongated wings arranged in a closed rectangular layout. A central axis runs through the middle wing, creating two enclosed courtyards. At the front of the main building stands a 67-meter-high tower, which was one of the tallest and most prominent buildings in Taiwan at the time.
