Himeji Castle
Himeji Castle
Himeji Castle is a historic castle located in Himeji City, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. Known for its striking white exterior, it is often referred to as the “White Heron Castle” due to its elegant, bird-like appearance.
As one of Japan’s most iconic and best-preserved castles, Himeji Castle has been designated a National Treasure and a Special Historic Site by the Japanese government. It was also among the first sites in Japan to be inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Recognized as one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles, its main keep is one of only twelve original surviving castle keeps in the country, earning it the nickname “Japan’s Number One Castle.” The castle has frequently served as a filming location for historical dramas and movies, often standing in for Edo Castle.
