Description

Chenggong

Taiwan Succeed Train

The Taiwanese Ship Chenggong is Taiwan’s first full-scale replica of a traditional wooden sailing ship.
Its design is based on a 1706 scroll painting titled “Tōsen no Zu”, housed at the Matsura Historical Museum in Hirado, Nagasaki, Japan.
Reconstructed at a 1:1 scale, the ship measures 29.5 meters in length, 7.26 meters in beam, weighs approximately 300 tons, and has a displacement of 150 tons.
Construction began in November 2008, and the ship made its maiden voyage on December 4, 2010,
sailing from Anping Harbor to Luermen, the landing site of the historical figure Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong).
National Geographic featured the ship’s construction and sea trial in a documentary, showcasing the craftsmanship and cultural significance of this ambitious project.
