Chiayi Chenghuang Temple – Paifang Archway Model

Chiayi Chenghuang Temple

The Chiayi Chenghuang Temple was the first City God temple established by the Zhuluo County government during the Qing Dynasty in Taiwan Prefecture. It is also one of the three major ancient temples in the old walled city of Zhuluo (present-day Chiayi).
At that time, Zhuluo County’s jurisdiction extended south to the Xingang River and north to Keelung, covering areas including Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung. All of these regions were within the worship domain of the City God of Zhuluo.
Since its founding, the temple has enjoyed thriving worship and a steady stream of devotees. The City God enshrined in the main hall is a locally carved Taiwanese statue, distinguished by its finely detailed craftsmanship and solemn, dignified expression.
The temple is located at No. 168, Wufeng North Road, Minzu Village, East District, Chiayi City. It stands as a testament to Chiayi’s local history and serves as a vital center of cultural and religious life. It has been designated as a national historic monument of Taiwan.
