Description

Dacheng Hall
Dacheng Hall
Dacheng Hall is the main and most elevated structure in a Confucius temple. Built on a raised platform, its front terrace is used for ritual dances honoring Confucius. The “Chi Bi” stone steps and decorative dragon heads (“Ao Tou”) symbolize imperial dignity and success in civil exams.
The roof features Confucian temple symbols like the “Tong Tian Tong” (a chimney-like ornament connecting to the heavens) and rows of ridge beasts (“Chi’e”), inspired by classic literature. Inside, a wooden spirit tablet of Confucius, installed since the Ming dynasty, is placed at the center. Side altars honor his key disciples, while plaques from emperors above reflect his respected status in Chinese culture.
