Osaka Castle
Osaka Castle
Osaka Castle, also known as “Golden Castle” or “Brocade Castle.”
Standing at the northern end of the Uemachi Plateau and facing the Yodo River, Osaka Castle occupies a key strategic location. It was originally built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi after he had largely unified Japan. The castle was grand in scale and known for its brilliant gold and splendor.
Having been destroyed multiple times by natural disasters and warfare, Osaka Castle was rebuilt in 1930 (during the Showa era) using steel-reinforced concrete. In 1997, it was officially designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property by the Japanese government.
